Attracting the best from all edges of the dance world, the 22nd edition of Berlin’s three-week international dance festival promises to satisfy dance fans of all ages and persuasions.

Alain Platel and Frank Van Laecke with Les Ballets C de la B open the festival with the German premiere of their English-language piece Gardenia, an exploration of illusions and the space between the genders. Pitting terrorism and contemporary culture against the very physical nature of the human body, Lemi Ponifaso’s MAU will present the “lived” performance Tempest: Without a Body.

This year’s highlights also include Meg Stuart and Philipp Gehmacher; the Chinese dance company Rubato (photo); and Israel-based Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor Dance Projects.
