Belegschaft is a healthy alternative to the crap sandwiches you usually get in the Checkpoint Charlie area. A non-thrilling yet welcome new snack option for tourists and local office workers alike. No more, no less. With sleek design, in- and outdoor seating and friendly staff, the café offers a broad range of organic sandwich options - from egg salad (€3.90) to grilled veggie and cream cheese (€4.90) and tuna/cress salad or warm chicken/Emmental (both €5.90).
Too bad the ingredients on display look so sparse and scarce surrounded as they are by triumphant interior design. They also serve salads (€3.90-5.90) and the classic Bio pastries filled with spinach or tomato that you find at every organic supermarket, which Berliners inappropriately call 'strudel' (€2.90; €4.90 with side salad). All beverages, from juices to coffees, are appropriately organic.
