Neukölln’s sleaziest and fiercest party was lit up last night by a bit of Berlinale glamour, with festival VIPs slumming at the popular PORK party at Ficken3000. Director John Cameron Mitchell’s unannounced DJ gig wasn’t so hush-hush to those in town for the fest. At this warm up for Mitchell's momentous Mattachine Dance Party at Monster Ronson’s on Valentine’s Day attendance was high for those who wanted to meet the man behind Hedwig. Among the usual set of about-town gays and scene-setters, the Urbanstr. sex club was packed with a handful of notables, including R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe (pictured above) who had a few kind words for this magazine and this blogger. And no, I didn’t ask him to place our logo in front of his face. Amanda Seyfried, star of Berlinale porn biopic Lovelace, also dropped in for quite a while, dancing near the pole (but not on it) with friends and being protected by gay superduo Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein. I tried to get a snapshot of Seyfried, but the beautiful starlet politely told me she “wasn’t allowed”, after which director Epstein told me this was “private time”. Fair enough, but I’m still going to write about it. She did, however, tell me that she loved Exberliner.
