Yup, it's that time of year again. For the next 11 days, Berlin descends into movie madness as prominent auteurs and fearless newcomers from all continents compete for your attention with brand new work. World premieres, red carpets, masterclasses, workshops, markets, parties, talks... everyone's going to have a great Berlinale story to tell and if you're not in on the fun, you're so out of it.
As usual we'll be reporting from the front lines, bringing back the latest scoop on which mind-blowing little film will forever earn you bragging rights among your friends, which monumental failure to avoid at all costs, what's getting people talking on Potsdamer Platz, what trends are being set during the 66th edition of the world's biggest audience festival. This time around, we have Ben, David and Zhuo-Ning on board.
Ben is back for his eighth Berlinale. Some might say that suggests a startling lack of imagination, but he doesn't mind because he spends the rest of the year writing about much more depressing things. While the rest of the gang concentrate on the actual movies, he will mainly be filling in the gaps with fluff – i.e. the really important stuff.
Team newbie David is a cinephile from an early age and is about to have his Berlinale cherry popped. Possibly blessed by his having once chatted with David Lynch (about the finer points of making the perfect quiche), he has excellent taste in film and writes a mean review.
Our film editor Zhuo-Ning (he won't be mad if you call him Tony) will also be on review duties. He's been known to love the slowest Asian arthouse export and the loudest Hollywood blockbuster equally and generally watches too many movies for his own good. This will be his 10th Berlinale.
So get yourself in the mood for motion pictures – we heartily suggest picking up a copy of our February film issue as a start – and check back for our daily updates on everything Berlinale!
