Smell the air. Fall is here and the days are still warm. With such a ethereal glow around the city, it’s hard to avoid the life that this season brings - not burdened by summer’s heat, but fucking packing it in (nightlife-wise, that is) to prepare for long winter nights. Bar 25 is gone forever (can we all imagine my eye roll at this exact moment), so this Deutscher Herbst you won’t be held hostage by its radical allure.
Besides, there’s plenty to do. Why not take in a bit of art/pop culture before you let go at the Peter Lindbergh vernissage (Fri, Sept 24 @ C|O Berlin) , where Vogue’s visual pro will show off large-format photos and (surprise!) Polaroids. Either way, they're sure to be pretty. There’s also the throwback of live music, played in throwback style by The Crookes and Treetop Flyers (Fri, Sept 24 @ Comet Club). Or, if that all feels a bit archaic, you can make a trip down to Friedrichshain for what looks to be an off-the-hook two-day birthday party put on by 20-year-old Ninja Tune (Fri, Sept 24 @ Astra). Bonobo, Fink and the Andreya Triano Trio will be there, keeping things groovy.
Ninja Tune XX continues the next night (Sat, Sept 25 @ Icon) in grand fashion by moving the fun to soon-to-be-departed Icon. Love and a last chance dance are to be had with a shockingly good line-up: The Bug, Daddy Freddy, DJ Food, King Cannibal and Bonobo. Otherwise, there’s another hip ride to catch with Montreal indie popsters Wolf Parade (Sat, Sept 25 @ Magnet Club). Or, if you're still in "throwback" mode, take a heavy nostalgia trip by going see a band you didn’t even realize you still have a CD from (possibly in a box in your mom's basement?) – Wax (Sat, Sept 25 @ West Germany). I can’t imagine a more random band to say you caught this weekend. Just think of the stark amazement it would elicit from any friends older than 30.
And, finally, to keep the hip rapture up - with emphasis on "rapture" - don’t forget about the Blonde Redhead show (Sun, Sept 26 @ Lido). There's no two ways about it: BR in Berlin should not be missed.
