“ABC has an interesting format that is somehow more precise than an art fair; you can also buy the works, which makes it interesting for us. It is also connected to the Gallery Weekend, which we also do and like very much.” Erik Herkrath, Buchmann Galerie, Berlin. Exhibiting work by LLL. Third year at ABC; participated in Art Forum in 2008 and 2009.

Background In 2008, the organizers of Berlin’s Gallery Weekend started ABC in cooperation with Art Forum.
In a nutshell Somewhere between a group exhibition and a fair, each edition of ABC has a theme, concept and curator. With many Gallery Weekend participants on show, Art Berlin Contemporary is the most representative of Berlin’s indigenous commercial art scene.
New this year The 2010 show light...camera...action! (curated by film scholar, curator and critic Marc Glöde) is devoted “to the complex field of the cinematic: film, film installation and other related aspects of the performative”. So… expect a lot of performance art, video work and photography. This time, ABC is taking place in the very ‘1950s LA’ Marshall-Haus, a building designed by Bruno Grimmek and built by the Americans in 1950 for the German Industrial Exhibition. Some performances and film screenings will take place at HAU2.
The vibe Frequented by local vernissage aficionados, artists and art lovers, ABC also attracts out-oftowners drawn in by the joint entry ticket with Art Forum.
Rules of the game Galleries apply; if accepted, they work with the festival curator to select works that fit the theme.
The numbers 2300sqm (1500sqm used to exhibit art) / 55 artists from 53 galleries / 15,000 visitors (2009)
