Dalí - Die Ausstellung (or Dalí - The Exhibition), started three years ago, as a temporary show of works by the Spanish Surrealist drawn from private collections, but in 2008 curator Carsten Kollmeier decided to turn it into a permanent collection with 3000 items at its disposal.

The rotating exhibition features more than 400 of them, anything from drawings, illustrated books, notebooks and documents to sculptures and film clips. Un chien andalou (1929), Dalí’s landmark cinematic collaboration with Luis Buñuel, is shown in its entirety.

The exhibition might not display Dalí’s most familiar images - the ones displayed on calendars and postcards, but it certainly depicts the artist as a master of almost every artistic technique.
