Eschewing the dystopia-fuelled plot twists that tend to undermine the sci-fi genre, Eubank’s The Signal sees Nic (Thwaites) and two friends lured into the desert to catch a hacker genius. Next thing they know, they’re trapped in a strange underground facility, but as they try to escape they discover that something is not as it seems to be. Think the best parts of Dark City mixed with an unhealthy dose of extra-terrestrial paranoia.
The Signal | Directed by William Eubank (USA 2014) with Laurence Fishburne, Brenton Thwaites, Olivia Cooke. Starts July 10
