Just another sci-fi movie
When another Earth identical to our own and peopled with our doppelgangers appears in the sky, the potential for a lofty sci-fi mindfuck is there. Unfortunately, Cahill leaves it untouched. Another Earth is beautifully shot, but its plot seems unrelated to its premise: just released from jail, Rhoda (Marling) – a bright, guilt-stricken 21-year-old – works through her grief, mop in hand, by cleaning at the home of a composer (Mapother), whose wife and son she killed in a drunk driving accident.
Another Earth | Directed by Mike Cahill (USA 2011) with Brit Marling, William Mapother. Starts November 10
