This book adaptation ticks all the requisite fantasy emo-boxes in a love story between small town Southern boy Ethan and his mysterious flame Lena. Stilted conversation, faraway looks, turgid symphonic rock soundtrack, Gothic interior? Check ‘em all and add overlong, meandering, frequently tiresome. The old-school ham of Irons and Thompson liven up proceedings, but otherwise this is a good looking but decidedly damp squib.
