Big Brad wolf
A return to the sharp talk and violence of Chopper, Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly is a handsome study of masculinity. From its premise of a gun-for-hire (Pitt) hunting down the small town crooks that rob a cartel card game, it’s more a spectrum of man-to-man dialogues and fetishised violence than the revenger’s tragedy and slow twist of the knife you might expect. But set in the boom and bust of Obama’s America, it’s an über-stylish celebration of the big bad wolf blowing the house down.
Killing Them Softly | Directed Andrew Dominik, (USA 2012) with Brad Pitt, Ben Mendelsohn, James Gandolfini. Starts November 29
