Flowers of Scotland
When earnest Rosa and fun-loving Allie hijack their recently deceased father’s ashes from a bourgeois Scottish cremation and travel to Cuba to reunite them with those of their mum, it’s obvious that it will take more than sun and the dregs of socialism to save the day. As Rosa’s love interest, ballet star Carlos Acosta lifts proceedings temporarily, but the narrative rehashes too much fairytale conventionality (two siblings far from home?) to really fly.
Day of the Flowers (¡Hasta la vista, Sister!) | Directed by John Roberts (UK, Cuba 2012) with Eva Birthistle, Charity Wakefield. Starts August 29
