Based on true events surrounding a group of aspiring breakdancers trying to express themselves under the totalitarian GDR regime, the film starts off on some hot retro beats. The promise of comedy with political relevance withers away, however, as clichés from various genres pile up and ever fewer sparks of genuine emotion come through. Gordon Kämmerer displays impressive physical agility and onscreen charisma in the lead role but can’t help a movie too tame for its own good to find its bite.
