Demonic possession films are mostly a phenomenon of the last 40 years, started by 1973’s The Exorcist, so it’s hard to fault Devil Inside for skimping on a solid script and a fluid, logical plot. Bell’s film doesn’t take us to incredible new places in satanic thematics, but it delivers the fun. Even though the dizzying documentary style is far from original, there’s the perfect amount of blood, profanity and revolting body contortion to make the film thrilling. In this case, the devil isn’t really in the details; he’s in the obvious scare tactics.
