Blissestrasse

Exberliner’s monthly flick night features Paul Donovan’s Blissestrasse (see interview), a tale of American evangelical Christians come to ‘save’ Berlin, who find that the city in fact saves them – though not before things go a bit off the rails.

There’s a bit of early-twenties coming of age and a mid-forties pastor breakdown much worse than the pre-menopausal midlife crisis your mother suffered. With a psychopathic pastor as their only guide to redemption, the students of Christ find themselves slowly falling victim to the city.

The cast congregate smashingly, as the thin-faced protagonist and his German-born single mother fuckbuddy prove more intoxicating than any communion wine. The English-language Berlin-film night in cooperation with realeyz.tv has been moved to Saturday but will, as usual, feature a post-screening Q&A with the director and cast at Lichtblick.
