Verbotene Filme hits Berlin cinemas on March 6.
Like Adolf Hitler, Propaganda Minister Goebbels was a film fan, dedicated to exploiting cinema’s potential to broadcast, obviously and less so, the tenets of National Socialism to billions of Third Reich cinemagoers. Amazing, really, that a film on whether and under which circumstances German democracy can cope with the general release of those 40-plus films (including Jud Süß, photo) could be outstanding. Until now. With far-right internet postings on the increase, Moeller’s film explores a newly explosive topic from an artistic (yes), political and moral standpoint. Don’t miss.
