For what it is – an entirely shameless exploitation of America’s desire to feel good about itself – this movie works pretty well. The one-sentence plot (high school biology teacher rediscovers idealism while raising money for the music department by taking a beating as an ultimate fighting champion) is a slight strain on credulity. But with endorphins popping away predictably every five minutes, you could do worse than amuse yourself in this time-warped reflection on the apparently still-rampant American dream.
Here Comes The Boom | Directed by Frank Coraci (USA 2012) with Kevin James, Salma Hayek, Henry Winkler. Starts November 8
