Don’t be intimidated by the prestige and glamour of the Berlinale: it’s the most visitor-friendly major international festival in the world.
It’s fairly easy to buy a ticket. They can be bought three days before each screening, sometimes four for special screenings, and you can get two tickets per person at a number of advance ticket sales points: the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden shopping centre, Kino International and Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
Ranging from €8 to €12, prices have gone up by €1 this year – but how do you think Germany is keeping its economy afloat? If you’re too lazy to enjoy the exhilarating experience of standing in long queues of cinephiles, simply bust out your credit card and buy your tickets online (for a €1.50 surcharge) by going to programme section of the Berlinale website beginning in early February.
You’ll still have to pick up your tickets at the Arkaden before the movie, but with a far shorter wait. Beware: only a limited number of tickets are available online – and the more hyped movies sell out fast.
