Returning to the lighter roots of his youthful comedies, Almovódar takes to the skies in a plane trying to leave for South America but actually stuck in Spanish airspace (cue metaphor). Is something seriously wrong? Whatever it is, coach class is fast asleep (cue metaphor) while those at the front discuss their sexuality, drink, and break into camp song. Flying with Almovódar is not a subtle trip. Even José Luis Alcaine’s cinematography is deceptively bright. But maybe that’s the point.
Los amantes pasajeros (I’m So Excited!/Fliegende Liebende) | Directed by Pedro Almovódar (Spain 2013) with Javier Cámara, Pepa Charro. Starts July 4.

Correction: The plane is leaving to Mexico City, therefore to North America.
