Based on Timothy Conigrave's memoirs, Holding The Man charts 15 years in the lives of Timothy (Corr) and John (Stott) from school in the 1970s to the 1980s AIDS crisis. Directed by Neil Armfield, Holding The Man features strong performances (particularly from Corr) but suffers from a disjointed narrative. It's cliched and unable to conjure up the chemistry that fuels the couple against the odds, but in its depiction of normalised homophobia and lovers facing death, it's a haunting testimony to love and loss.
Holding the Man | Directed by Neil Armfield (Australia 2015) with Ryan Corr and Craig Stott. Starts June 2.
