Mittsommernachtstango hits Berlin cinemas on March 13.
Preceded by a wildly funny monologue from Kaurismäki and a Night on Earth episode involving a Finnish taxi driver in Buenos Aires both expounding on the Finnish origins of tango, three Argentine musicians make for the distant north to contest their national heritage. Part road trip, part concert and strangely filled both with music and silence, this poem of a film brings together melancholy, passion and instinctive friendship as it explores the tango’s transcendence of mere cultural nationalism.
Mittsommernachtstango | Directed by Viviane Blumenschein (Finland, Argentina 2013) docu-fiction with Pablo Greco, Diego Kvitko, Reijo Taipale. Starts March 13
