2013 Berlinale entry Naked Opera hits Berlin cinemas.
Part-time human resources manager Marc Rollinger uses his apparently limitless wealth to pursue an obsession with Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Christlieb’s documentary follows him around Venice, Vienna and Berlin in the company of a series of nubile young men, revealing demons (resembling those of his iconic hero) linked to overcoming his fear of death. In Rollinger’s case, as in Giovanni’s, the answer lies in indulgent awareness and is well served by Christlieb’s lightly satirical touch, which manages to merge distance and intimacy into resolution.
Naked Opera | Directed by Angela Christlieb (Luxemburg, Germany 2013) documentary. Starts October 10
