Verow’s filmmaking style can be a momentary shock to the system, but it doesn’t take long before you realize that the films are not so subtly hiding a great and well-executed story. The Final Girl follows queer women (not men, Verow’s usual subject), in fact three Parisian women, who are all involved with a mysterious fourth whose fate is a mystery to all. Was she a killer? Was she killed? Was she running from an assassin? The three women all explore personal concepts of fantasy that work for them in their own ways.
THE FINAL GIRL | Directed by Todd Verow (USA 2010) with Wendy Delorme, Judy Minx. Opens May 12
