This week, Andrea Arnold’s much-hyped Cannes Jury Prize-winner American Honey (photo) hits Berlin kinos. Swiss Army Man (aka the Danielle Radcliffe farting corpse movie) has proven one of the year’s most discussed and divisive indie films, inspiring both 5-star raves and 1-star slams. We fell somewhere in the middle, but if you’re in the market for something genuinely original, look no further. Welcome to Norway! is a bold, blackly comic take on the European migrant crisis, set in a near-derelict Norwegian ski resort. If that’s piqued your interest, check out our interview with director Rune Denstad Langlo. And Saint Amour is a surprisingly effective French riff on Alexander Payne’s Sideways, featuring Gérard Depardieu’s strongest performance in years.
