Politist, adj. follows detective Cristi (Bucur) on an investigation of a suspected cannabis dealing case involving three teenagers. His superiors are pressuring him to arrest the teenagers, but Cristi hesitates to ruin a young person’s life because of laws he considers anachronistic. Extremely austere in content and aesthetic, the film uses the investigation as a parable to comment on the progress of Romania’s transition from totalitarianism, managing to craft deceptively simple, poignant scenes through a highly intelligent use of dialogue and allegory.
Politist, adj. | Directed by: Corneliu Porumboiu (Romania 2009) with Dragos Bucur, Vlad Ivanov. Starts January 12.
