A group of attractive and brooding young men are led by an altruistic and ridiculously athletic Dylan O’Brien on a quest through a dystopian future to seek protection from an organization that pursues their blood as the only remedy against the Flare virus. Although lacking the novelty and paced exposition of the first film, The Scorch Trials is structurally and aesthetically consistent to the previous installment, providing some credibility for the franchise. Unfortunately, this does not make up for the derivative storyline and the unoriginal camera work, which makes this yet another pastiche action film with an excess of bravado.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials | Wes Ball (USA 2015) with Dylan O’Brian, Kaya Scodelario, Patricia Clarkson. Starts September 24
