Tissue-chewing, hooch-sodden witch hunter Jeff Bridges seeks out callow, vision-wracked Ben Barnes to hunt down feathery baddie Julianne Moore before she doles out a hearty smiting to all mankind, hindered by comely witches, smashy giants and shape-shifting fiends. The characters are gorgeously costumed, the world (though ill served by its tacked-on 3D) is often lushly imagined, and the whole has a decent sense of spectacle, but ultimately the ride just isn’t as much fun as it ought to be.
