Sonita is incredibly well- paced, well-edited and well-shot for a low budget documentary. But most importantly, the story of Sonita, an Afghani refugee in Iran who dreams of becoming a successful rapper, is incredibly well-told. You can’t help but root for her while watching her trying to find a place to live for her sister and niece, trying to make ends meet and trying to fight an oppressive society with her music – always trying.
Sonita | Directed by Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami (Germany, Switzerland, Iran 2016) with Sonita Alizadeh. Starts May 26
