Another chapter in the saga of Nicholas Sparks’ saccharine narratives has made it to movie screens as Amanda (Monaghan) and Dawson (Marsden) find each other again 25 years after fate and families contrived to sunder their love-across-the-tracks high school romance. Solidly suburban in tone and morality, their reunion is set against pseudo-philosophical deliberations on what makes small lives part of the universal picture that plop like pebbles into a pond, and disappear just as quickly.
The Best of Me | Directed by Michael Hoffman (USA 2014) with Michelle Monaghan, James Marsden. Starts January 8
