The Family (Malavita)
A former mafiosi family is on the run under the FBI’s witness protection programme after the father, Gio (De Niro), commits the unspeakable crime of snitching. They are relocated to Normandy where they become the token Americans. Exaggerated Brooklyn accents and an irritating insistence on Maggie’s (Pfeiffer) excellent pasta fail to enliven a film that presents an insidiously violent lifestyle as intrinsically funny and acceptable, whilst attempting to convey some transcendental message on family values and love.
The Family (Malavita) | Directed by Luc Besson (US, France 2013) with Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer. Starts November 21
