In 1952, four men from the US Coast Guard were sent out on an impossible rescue mission for a sinking oil tanker cut in half by a storm. The maritime mayhem is impressively recreated in Gillespie’s 3D drama, with the camera zooming, spinning and diving to catch Mother Nature’s ruthless strikes. The story, though, fails to connect despite every effort to pump up the heroism. This might be remembered as the very, very wet movie with a lot of shouting over some serious drumming.
The Finest Hours | Directed by Craig Gillespie (USA 2016) with Chris Pine, Casey Affleck. Starts March 31.
