Rampling on Rampling
Rampling devotees will relish this opportunity to get intimate insight into the thoughts of their icon. Everyone else will wonder why they should listen to her talk about herself. The film shows Rampling in the company of her artist and intellectual friends, like Peter Lindbergh and Paul Auster, whose contributions essentially amount to agreeing with whatever she has to say. The Look is above all a work of narcissism (Rampling had ultimate say over the final cut), and her reflections are hardly very profound or revelatory, making little of what must be a genuinely fascinating life.
The Look | Directed by Angelina Maccarone (Germany, France 2011) with Charlotte Rampling. Starts October 20
