Hankies at the ready? "Song for Marion" is a thoroughly depressing tale of cancer and music following the last part of a terminally sick woman’s life, in which she and her husband find solace in song.
It’s a drainer. Even the light-hearted scenes that dare to pop up in the movie’s middle sections are overshadowed by Eccleston and Stamp’s father-son dispute. Only Stamp’s ‘old codger’ turn rescues this flick from total cheesiness.
Song for Marion | Directed by Paul Andrew Williams (UK, Germany 2012) with Terence Stamp, Christopher Eccleston, Gemma Arterton, Vanessa Redgrave. Starts March 14
