How to capture the magic of authentic Berlin without overdosing on cool? Tom Schilling is annoyed with his liberal uni, shaves his head and packs it off to West Berlin, where Roehler crams in an excess of cool-tokens: Blixa Bargeld, Nick Cave and Fassbinder are incidental encounters whilst stolen RAF money, an American stripper, heroin addiction and gay Nazis complete the tropes of wild West Berlin. Adult matter with erectile dysfunction, Roehler’s film lacks both grit and believability.
