In 1953 a group of handpicked students were sent from North Korea to the GDR. Some of them started families, whom they never contacted after being forced to return home a decade later. After more than half a century, these German single mothers and their children joined forces to revisit their experience of being barricaded away from loved ones under a tumultuous geopolitical backdrop. This unusual subject matter tenderly unveils the unexplored trauma of those who were left behind, as well as cross-cultural encounters in GDR times.
