A Canadian woman comes to Vienna to watch over a comatose cousin. She is befriended by a museum attendant at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, whose quiet digressions on paintings and the people looking at them turn into a canvas as broad as any Bruegel. What exactly makes art – and life – worth observing is a question answered here at many levels, but with subtle inconclusiveness as Cohen navigates the junctions of art history and humanity, leaving us with space enough to form our own attachments.
