Vinyl's last stand
Tom runs Sound it Out, a record shop in Stockton, the last shop in the northeast of England to sell and deal in vinyl. From Mákina to D-beat, Tom knows it, stocks it or will get hold of it. He does some selling and a lot of listening – to music, and to customers: the legions of unemployed young adults mixing it up in the garden shed, the Status Quo-obsessed shelf-stacker, the aging lothario. Should British social services pay Tom for his services to music and/or the crooked timber of humanity? Finlay’s film sure makes a convincing case.
Sound it Out | Directed by Jeanie Finlay (UK 2011), documentary. Starts May 10
