No bite, innocuous nibbles
Fright Night has always been that 1980s classic that you can’t completely remember, so no one can really be annoyed about this remake, playing on the original’s coolness in a teen-horror-flick-by-numbers sort of way.
The contribution of Marti Noxon (of Buffy and Mad Men fame) probably makes the screenplay less annoying than it might have been, and Farrell and Collette raise it up a few years on the age scale. A few. For those who hunger for blood (on the screen), Fright Night is not a total waste of time.
Fright Night | Directed by Craig Gillespie (USA 2011) with Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette. Starts October 6
