Centred in Kreuzberg, the 8. Xposed International Queer Film Festival hits town May 30-June 1.
After last year’s focus on the Middle East, the eighth Xposed International Queer Film Festival rips back the sheets on Austrian queer cinema. The festival kicks off with a screening of Austrian shorts before moving on for an opening night screening party at Mindpirates, featuring the iconic short Burning Palace and Avery Willard’s classic Rugged Man.
Friday night begins with German and international shorts followed by the festival’s first feature-length movie: Hans Fädler’s 1984 Wiener Brut, an early Billy-Idol-inspired take on the steamier side of gender and sexuality in imperial Austria, to be followed by a Q&A with lead actor Arthur Singer.
Day three starts with vintage porn from Willard, followed up by two features both (co-)directed by A. Hans Scheirl: Flaming Ears and the imaginative Dandy Dust, which follows a schizoid cyborg through time and space in search of self-definition.
The Lolly Awards wrap things up at Südblock with film installations and Viennese band Pop:sch performing. For ticket prices, times and venues, check www.xposedfilmfestival.com.
