Every year since 2005, Gendarmenmarkt’s delightful Konzerthaus has rolled out the blue, EU-themed carpet for what are surely the world’s best classical youth symphony orchestras.
Despite its name tag, Young Euro Classic invites talents from as far away as China and Japan. The festival aims to encourage international understanding and cooperation; this year’s opening night concert on August 6 features the specially formed “Young Euro Classic Festival Orchestra of Southeastern Europe”, with musicians from the seven countries of the former Yugoslavia.
The festival includes a total of 17 orchestras playing a lively mix of 19th- and 20th-century and contemporary compositions (the best one wins a €5000 European Composer Award). With tickets a reasonable €15, it’s perfect for visiting parents!
