More than 18 artists, including Joseph Beuys, Santiago Sierra and Pussy Riot contribute to the new mixed media exhibit at KOW. The message of Believers is clear: the public sphere has the right to laugh at, ridicule and offend idols. Consider this in light of the following: members of Pussy Riot are now serving harsh sentences in isolated prison camps for retaliation against Vladimir Putin – using the Russian Orthodox Church as a mouthpiece. This alone should shake the staunchest believers, the baseline of most religions being humanity. At times abstract, the show shines a spotlight on the elephant in the room and for this alone should be seen.
