Looking eerily like a particular celebrity can be a curse or a blessing, but it’s usually not much more than a party trick. For Elpida Orfanidou and Juan Perno, however, Orfanidou’s resemblance to early 20th-century actress Maria Falconetti has become the inspiration for an entire multimedia performance piece. Their study in mimicry casts Orfanidou in her doppelgänger’s role in the 1928 film The Passion of Joan of Arc and creates it anew. The now-ubiquitous technique of live-filming on stage is taken to new extremes in this interactive production.
