Jérôme Bel, master of "non-dance", is a natural fit for Berlin's cheeky and intellectual dance scene. His work shows in museums as often as theatres, so no surprise that it’s presented this September under the auspices of Berlin Art Week. Gala, a piece from 2015, brings untrained dancers with a wide range of bodies (kids, wheelchair users, ballet students) to form a company. The concept driving it is simple – each performer attempts dance moves in turn, whether a plié or the moonwalk. But the result is a moving reflection on movement itself.
