Across the hall from Zak Branika, cutting straight through the other exhibitions in the house, is the solo exhibition of Jan van der Ploeg. Centring around the massive wall painting “MWMW”, the artist’s painterly gesture juts out into the room, splashing across the opposing wall with smaller, more concise works. The bright, bursting shapes created via acrylic on canvas bring radiating sunlight into an overcast Berlin. He generates throbbing motives that sculpturally redefine painting, giving the viewer no other choice than to smile.
