A great escape from overheated Berlin: arrive at S-Bahnhof Potsdam, cross the bridge over onto “Friendship Island” (Freundschaftsinsel) and walk through the rose garden to the left to come upon a 1960s architectural glass pavilion. Inside, Betke’s images, painted on hinged aluminum panels, float through the room. The panels work like separate, framed images, yet what he depicts carries on an eerie conversation with the other “canvases”. The show leaves you re-energised, full of ideas and the warmth of summer.
