Buried within the wildly abstract, heavily textured works in Lawrence Power’s first solo exhibition are suggestions of landscapes or human faces. Eyes seem to wink in and out of broad fields of colour punctuated by violent streaks. Power, a New Zealander who migrated to Berlin, started working with oils on cardboard before switching to canvas. His creations still have a slightly sculptural feel, thanks to the thick layers of colour he applies, molds, slices, slashes and scrapes. The overall effect borders on collage, hovering somewhere between classical and contemporary. Last day.
