Dutch artist Marian Wijnvoord presents an exhibition of large oil paintings, focusing on landscapes. Her bleak, muted works hint at the violence of the natural world, whilst drawing abstract parallels between contemporary history and the present day.
Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition is the launch of her new book Paintings Public, Paintings Private, the published manifestation of her spring 2014 Living Room Project Berlin. Eager to view her paintings outside of a gallery context, Wijnvoord invited 18 friends of her friends to choose a painting of their choice and install it in their home. After three months she returned to photograph the integration of her work into their households, providing a new glimpse into how works of art are incorporated into private environments.
