Germany is the cryogenic chamber of antiquated black musical formats, where gospel-tinged back-up singers and satellite members of Fishbone go to mimic a stardom that eluded them Stateside. There’s more than a touch of Passing Strange to the proceedings, but what if you deserved considerably better the first time around? Mother's Finest was pioneering black rock in the mid-1970s, way before Vernon Reid was twisting his first dread into place, and their “Baby Love” remains a DITC favourite. Are they as acid-drenched as P-Funk? No. But their best tracks are acidic nonetheless.
