For this much-anticipated solo exhibition, Broekhuysen travelled to her country of birth, South Africa, to research Bushman rock paintings. Using binary system stamping, she then left her own mark on the area, resulting in the photographic series Rock Painting Sites 1, 2 and 3. Through pixellation the images become artworks in themselves, instead of mere documentation. Also on view are gleaned humanised rock forms (paving stones, cobblestones, marble tiles) found around the Berlin area. The pieces work together to reflect on the artist’s personal life, past and present.
