I’m from the math rock generation, but I’ve never been very good with numbers. So, during my youth, I turned to other genres such as industrial music, which at the time was generally concerned with totalitarian methods, mind control, fundamentalism and, um, a little too often, white power. Now we have Facebook for all of that, so it’s no wonder that Genesis P-Orridge of Psychic TV has gone retro, embracing cock rock – the last time I saw them, they played no less than three Hawkwind covers. Needless to say, if nostalgia is evidence of a sense of paradise lost, P-Orridge’s life exemplifies it. And, sadly, paradise maintains too much dignity to make a comeback.
